    Official opening

The official opening of the play area will take place on 17th Jun from about 3pm onwards, with a very special guest arriving at 4pm (ish) to do the honours! I have ordered a bouncy castle, ball pool, jungle assault course and bungee run and we will have live musical entertainment too! It should be a great day!

The play area is now in-use!

On Friday 8th April we had the great honour of attending the topping out ceremony at the newly refurbished play area situated at the eastern end of the recreation ground off Alvescot Road. The new area includes a 6m climbing net, nest swing, zip wire, attractive seating and various other items of play and exercise equipment.

The official grand opening is not until June when we will have a very special guest visitor but we were keen to have the area ready for use by the start of the Easter holidays and we managed to do just that.

I would like to publicly thank Carolyn Place from Anthony Stiff associates who is our landscape architect and project manager for this colossal task ,as well as Janet Eustace (town clerk), Carterton Youth Council and all the young people who have had such a meaningful direct input into the design of this new play area. I would also like to thank all those who volunteered to be part of the working group – I think we should all be very proud with what we have managed to achieve, particularly at a time when budgets are being cut and projects being shelved. Well done to all!

Watch this space for more details about the official grand opening!

    Many thanks to Tan Marchant

Many thanks indeed to Mrs Tan Marchant for providing the latest images of the play park under construction. It is really starting to take shape now as you can see.

The current aspiration is to get some of the equipment open before the Easter School holidays with a topping out ceremony in early April. More details to follow and all will be revealed right here!

    Good progress!

I have visited the site every 2 or 3 days on average and I have been continually impressed by the progress that is being made. I took a few more images today and I’ve published them in the gallery.

I also had a meeting with our landscape architect this week to review the design ideas for our bandstand/performing space. 29 excellent entries have now been reduced to 10 for further scrutiny and judging. I’ll be posting more about this in the coming weeks!

    More equipment has been installed!

Another link to the gallery of pictures – Tada!

The site is now starting to take shape – quite literally! Some of the landscaping has started to become visible and the gigantic 6m climbing net is now in place. I am very impressed with progress to date and I look forward to the site beginning to show how it will eventually look. Since the commencement of work on site we have received a number of very positive comments and no complaints!

    Another update and more images

    More images in The Gallery.

The 6m climbing net was going to be installed today but this will now happen on Monday due to supply issues. The forks were ordered for today so that the sleepers and the net could all be installed in one day (saving money) but the sleepers did not arrive and so the site manager cancelled the forks otherwise they would have been required today for the giant net and again on Monday for the sleepers. Better to get both tasks done in one day of course!

    Another image update

I visited the site today and had a chat with the man who seems to be in control, he reckons that by Thursday we could see the 6m climbing net erected! After a couple of weeks of ground works we are now starting to see foundations, landscaping and now equipment being installed – it’s all very exciting!

The latest images can be seen in the gallery!
