The play area is now in-use!

On Friday 8th April we had the great honour of attending the topping out ceremony at the newly refurbished play area situated at the eastern end of the recreation ground off Alvescot Road. The new area includes a 6m climbing net, nest swing, zip wire, attractive seating and various other items of play and exercise equipment.

The official grand opening is not until June when we will have a very special guest visitor but we were keen to have the area ready for use by the start of the Easter holidays and we managed to do just that.

I would like to publicly thank Carolyn Place from Anthony Stiff associates who is our landscape architect and project manager for this colossal task ,as well as Janet Eustace (town clerk), Carterton Youth Council and all the young people who have had such a meaningful direct input into the design of this new play area. I would also like to thank all those who volunteered to be part of the working group – I think we should all be very proud with what we have managed to achieve, particularly at a time when budgets are being cut and projects being shelved. Well done to all!
