Temporary footpath has now been installed

As promised; a temporary footpath has been put in place (see image to the left) to alleviate the problems associated with the regular path being out of use whilst the play park is being renovated. The temporary path will remain in place until the permanent footpath is ready for use.

I couldn’t resist a plaid background as a tribute to Robert Burns this week! Feedback is always welcome!

    Temporary footpaths

The grassed area at the recreation ground is becoming a bit of a mud-bath due to the required closure of a section of the tarmac path whilst the play park renovation is under-way.

It seems that the rec is used as a cut-through to the town centre by a great many people and so we have decided to install a temporary footpath, which the contractors have told us will be in place by the end of the week.

What this has shown is that the planned high quality permanent footpaths are likely to be well used!

    New photos in the gallery

I visited the site today and was quite surprised to see that ALL the play equipment has now been removed and the workmen have started the unenviable task of removing the top surface of the flooring material to reveal what is lurking underneath! The photos can be viewed at https://cartertonrec.wordpress.com/gallery/.

Week one and the equipment is just a distant memory – great start!

    Photo update later today

There will be a photo update today which will indicate the progress made in week one of the on-site aspect of the project. Not only has the site been secured, fenced off and prepared for work but equipment has already begun to be removed. Photos will be published before close of play today.

    Photo gallery

I paid a brief visit to the Recreation Ground this morning and took some photographs which show the temporary fencing up and old play equipment starting to be removed. You can track the progress in pictures on the photo gallery page.

Additionally, if you have photos of the recreation ground and play area, either recent or from anytime over the past couple of decades, then please send them to us and we will incorporate them somewhere on the site.

    Performing space – design brief

As part of the redevelopment of the Recreation Ground a performance area is being proposed. The pupils of Carterton Community College have a chance to design it. The plan of the recreation area shows the layout of the new play area and the location of the performance space. It also gives some ideas for different styles and one arrangement to show you a potential option. Download Rec plan

The outline brief should allow for some really innovative thinking…

    Q: What is a performance area ?

A: Somewhere that bands and theatre groups can perform

    Q: Is it a building ?

A: Not necessarily but it could be a structure.

Q: Do I design the space around it ?

A: Yes, as that is an important part of the setting and function of the ‘stage’. In the setting you should consider planting.

The deadline for enties is 14th Feb. The readout from the work undertaken by the Community College students will be published here!
